Princess Elissa — also known as Dido — was a Phoenician princess from the great city of Tyre (modern-day Lebanon). Around 814 BC, she fled political turmoil, sailed across the Mediterranean with a fleet of followers, and founded one of the most powerful cities of the ancient world: Carthage.
Carthage would go on to challenge Rome itself. Its armies crossed the Alps. Its influence stretched from North Africa to Spain. And it all began with the courage and vision of a Lebanese Phoenician princess.
